A 10.5 Inch Faxon 300 BLK Barrel with the Gas Block Already Solved

The Faxon Duty Series 15A38P10NGQ-APGB is a 10.5 inch Gunner profile .300 Blackout barrel for compatible AR-15 builds, packaged with an included low-profile .750 gas block and retaining pin. It is built for the shooter who wants the same compact 300 BLK utility as Faxon's standard 10.5 inch Gunner barrel, but with the gas block alignment and pinning work simplified from the start.

This is the better choice when the buyer wants a set-it-and-forget-it fixed gas-block setup instead of sourcing a separate gas block, aligning it from scratch, and worrying about gas-block movement during use. The barrel journal is notched and the gas block is pre-drilled and aligned for the included retaining pin, reducing one of the common assembly variables on short-barrel AR builds.

Why Choose the Pinned Gas Block Version?

Gas-block alignment matters on any AR, but it matters even more on compact 300 Blackout builds where ammunition, suppressor use, buffer weight, spring choice, and gas timing can all affect reliability. The pinned gas block version gives the builder a more secure fixed gas-block arrangement than a simple set-screw-only installation.

This does not make the barrel adjustable, and it does not eliminate the need to tune the complete firearm. What it does is remove a major mechanical variable: the gas block is intended to stay aligned and secure as part of the barrel system. For a duty-style, defensive, training, or general-purpose compact 300 BLK upper, that simplicity is the point.

10.5 Inch Gunner Profile for Compact .300 Blackout

The 10.5 inch length is one of the practical sweet spots for 300 Blackout. It keeps the upper compact while giving more barrel and dwell time than very short 300 BLK barrels. That makes it a strong choice for a compact general-purpose 300 BLK build that may be used suppressed, unsuppressed, with supersonic ammunition, or with tested subsonic ammunition.

The Gunner profile is Faxon's blend of government-profile durability and pencil-profile handling. The profile keeps more strength where it matters and removes unnecessary forward weight, helping the rifle or pistol balance better once a handguard, optic, light, sling, muzzle device, or suppressor mount is added.

Pistol-Length Gas for 300 Blackout Use

This barrel uses a pistol-length gas system and includes the .750 low-profile gas block. The builder still needs a compatible pistol-length gas tube, gas tube roll pin, bolt carrier group, buffer system, handguard, muzzle device, and other upper components unless those parts are supplied separately.

300 Blackout function is system-dependent. Supersonic and subsonic ammunition can behave very differently, and suppressor use changes gas pressure. The barrel and pinned gas block are the foundation, but the complete setup should still be tested with the gas tube, BCG, buffer, spring, magazine, muzzle device, suppressor, and ammunition actually being used.

Suppressed and Unsuppressed Build Considerations

The 5/8x24 muzzle thread gives the builder access to common .30-caliber muzzle devices and suppressor mounts. That is one of the main reasons 300 Blackout remains popular in compact AR builds: the cartridge pairs naturally with shorter barrels and suppressor-ready setups.

Thread pitch alone does not make a suppressor setup correct. Before firing with a suppressor installed, confirm bore clearance, suppressor rating, cartridge compatibility, muzzle-device compatibility, shoulder support, thread engagement, torque method, and alignment. This is especially important on 300 BLK builds because heavy subsonic bullets and suppressors are common.

1:8 Twist and Ammunition Selection

The 1:8 twist is a traditional general-purpose 300 Blackout twist rate. It is a practical fit for many mixed-use 300 BLK builds, especially when the shooter wants to test both supersonic and subsonic loads rather than build exclusively around the heaviest subsonic bullets.

Final reliability and accuracy still depend on ammunition. Bullet weight, bullet profile, powder choice, suppressor use, magazine geometry, gas tuning, and buffer setup can all affect how a 300 Blackout AR cycles and shoots. Test the exact load combination you intend to use before treating the upper as finalized.

300 Blackout Ammunition Discipline

300 Blackout should be treated as its own ammunition system. Because 300 BLK, 5.56 NATO, and .223 Remington are all commonly used in AR-15 platforms and magazines, owners should keep ammunition, magazines, rifles, and uppers clearly separated to avoid dangerous mix-ups.

Use only ammunition specifically marked .300 AAC Blackout, .300 Blackout, or 300 BLK in this barrel. Do not mix 300 BLK ammunition with 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington ammunition at the bench, in the range bag, or in loaded magazines.

Legal Configuration Note

This is a 10.5 inch barrel. It is not a 16 inch rifle barrel. Use it only with a lawful AR pistol, properly registered short-barreled rifle, or other legal host configuration. Installing a barrel under 16 inches on a rifle can create a short-barreled rifle subject to NFA regulation.

Confirm the final firearm configuration, receiver status, federal law, state law, and local restrictions before ordering or installing any sub-16 inch barrel.

Who Should Choose This Faxon Pinned Gas Block Barrel?

This is a strong choice for the AR-15 builder who wants a compact 300 Blackout barrel with better handling than a heavy contour and a more secure fixed gas-block setup than a standard set-screw-only build. It fits AR pistol builds, registered SBRs, compact suppressed hosts, training guns, property-rifle concepts where lawful, and general-purpose 300 BLK uppers.

It is less suitable for a buyer who wants an adjustable gas block, a 16 inch rifle barrel, a dedicated 1:5 twist subsonic-first barrel, a large-frame AR barrel, or a 5.56 / .223 Wylde upper. The value here is the specific combination of 10.5 inch length, Gunner profile balance, 300 Blackout chambering, pistol-length gas, included pinned .750 gas block, 1:8 twist, 4150 CMV steel, nitride finish, and 5/8x24 muzzle threads.

Popular Pairings

Features
  • Included pinned gas block system: Comes with a low-profile .750 gas block, pre-notched barrel journal, pre-drilled alignment, and included retaining pin to reduce gas-block installation variables.
  • 10.5 inch 300 Blackout configuration: Gives the builder a compact AR-15 barrel length well suited to lawful pistol, registered SBR, and suppressor-host projects.
  • Gunner profile balance: Combines government-profile durability with pencil-profile handling to reduce unnecessary front-end weight.
  • Pistol-length gas system: Uses the short gas system commonly selected for compact 300 BLK builds and requires a compatible pistol-length gas tube.
  • .750 gas block journal: Uses the common .750 gas block diameter with the matching low-profile gas block included.
  • 5/8x24 muzzle threads: Accepts compatible .30-caliber muzzle devices and suppressor mounts when bore clearance and alignment are verified.
  • 1:8 twist rate: Provides a traditional general-purpose 300 Blackout twist rate for broad supersonic and mixed-use ammunition testing.
  • 4150 CMV steel construction: Uses a durable barrel steel suited to hard-use AR-15 barrel applications.
  • Button-rifled bore: Provides Faxon's listed rifling method for this Duty Series 300 BLK barrel.
  • Nitride inside and out: Adds corrosion resistance, surface hardness, and easier cleaning compared with an untreated barrel surface.
  • M4 barrel extension: Fits compatible AR-15 upper receiver builds using an M4-style barrel extension.
  • 11-degree target crown: Protects the muzzle end of the bore and supports consistent bullet exit.
  • MPI inspected and headspace checked: Reflects Faxon's quality-control process for the barrel before shipment.
  • Best for set-it-and-forget-it builds: A strong fit for compact 300 BLK builders who want a fixed, secure gas-block setup rather than sourcing and aligning the gas block separately.
