A 16 Inch Faxon Gunner Barrel for a Non-NFA .300 Blackout AR-15

The Faxon Duty Series 15A38C16NGQ is a 16 inch Gunner profile .300 Blackout barrel for compatible AR-15 builds. It is built for the shooter who wants a standard rifle-length 300 BLK upper without going into short-barrel territory, while still getting the handling advantage of Faxon's Gunner contour, 5/8x24 muzzle threads, carbine-length gas, 4150 CMV construction, and nitride finish inside and out.

This is the practical 300 Blackout barrel for a buyer who wants the cartridge in a conventional 16 inch AR-15 format. Shorter 300 BLK barrels make sense for pistol and registered SBR builds, especially when suppression is the main goal. This 16 inch Gunner barrel makes more sense for a non-NFA rifle, property rifle, range rifle, supersonic hunting or utility setup, or a 300 BLK upper that needs to remain simple and broadly useful.

Why Choose the Gunner Profile?

The Gunner profile is Faxon's blend of government-profile durability and pencil-profile handling. Instead of leaving unnecessary weight at the muzzle, the profile helps bring balance back toward the shooter. That matters on a 16 inch AR-15 because the rifle should still feel lively once a handguard, optic, light, sling, muzzle device, or suppressor mount is added.

A heavy barrel may be the better answer for a dedicated bench gun. A very short barrel may be better for a compact suppressed host. The 16 inch Gunner is the middle path: enough barrel length for a standard rifle configuration, but without the front-heavy feel of a heavier contour.

300 Blackout in a 16 Inch Barrel

A 16 inch 300 Blackout build is often chosen by shooters who want to avoid NFA short-barrel requirements while still using an AR-15 chambered for .30-caliber 300 BLK ammunition. It is especially sensible for supersonic ammunition, general range use, hunting where lawful, and a rifle that may occasionally be suppressed without being built only around suppressed subsonic use.

The 1:8 twist is a traditional general-purpose 300 BLK twist rate. It gives the builder broad flexibility across common 300 Blackout ammunition, but the final rifle should still be tested with the exact supersonic or subsonic loads the owner intends to use. Bullet weight, suppressor use, gas setup, magazine selection, buffer weight, and spring choice can all affect function.

Carbine-Length Gas System

This barrel uses a carbine-length gas system with a .750 inch gas block journal. That means the builder needs a carbine-length gas tube, a compatible .750 gas block, and a handguard with enough internal clearance for the chosen gas block. The gas block and gas tube are not included unless separately listed as part of a bundle or completed upper.

Carbine gas can be a good match for a 16 inch 300 Blackout rifle, but 300 BLK builds still need to be tuned as a complete system. Suppressed versus unsuppressed use, subsonic versus supersonic ammunition, buffer weight, recoil spring, bolt carrier group, magazine, and gas block choice can all change how the rifle cycles.

Threaded for .30-Caliber Muzzle Devices and Suppressor Mounts

The 5/8x24 muzzle thread is the common thread pattern for many .30-caliber muzzle devices and suppressor mounts. That gives the builder flexibility to run a thread protector, flash hider, muzzle brake, direct-thread suppressor, or suppressor-mounting muzzle device that is properly rated for 300 Blackout.

Thread pitch alone is not enough for suppressed use. Confirm bore clearance, suppressor rating, cartridge compatibility, muzzle-device compatibility, shoulder support, thread engagement, torque method, and alignment before firing with a suppressor installed. This is especially important on 300 Blackout builds because both heavy subsonic bullets and suppressor use are common.

300 Blackout Ammunition Discipline

300 Blackout should be treated as its own ammunition system. Because 300 BLK, 5.56 NATO, and .223 Remington are all commonly used in AR-15 platforms and magazines, owners should keep ammunition, magazines, rifles, and uppers clearly separated to avoid dangerous mix-ups.

Use only ammunition specifically marked .300 AAC Blackout, .300 Blackout, or 300 BLK in this barrel. Do not mix 300 BLK ammunition with 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington ammunition at the bench, in the range bag, or in loaded magazines.

Who Should Choose This Faxon 16 Inch 300 BLK Barrel?

This is a strong choice for the AR-15 builder who wants a 16 inch 300 Blackout rifle with good handling, simple non-NFA configuration, carbine-length gas, and standard 5/8x24 muzzle-device flexibility. It fits range rifles, property rifles, general-purpose 300 BLK carbines, hunting-oriented builds where lawful, and shooters who plan to use mostly supersonic ammunition with the option to test suppressed or subsonic setups.

It is less suitable for a buyer building the shortest possible 300 Blackout pistol, a dedicated suppressed subsonic SBR, a large-frame AR, or a 5.56 / .223 Wylde upper. The value here is the specific combination of 16 inch length, Gunner profile balance, 300 Blackout chambering, 1:8 twist, carbine gas, 4150 CMV steel, nitride finish, and 5/8x24 muzzle threads.
