Lancer’s Hybrid 30-Round AR-15 Magazine
The Lancer L5AWM 999-000-2320-31 combines an impact-resistant translucent polymer body with a one-piece hardened steel feed lip assembly. The result retains the light weight and visibility of a polymer magazine while reinforcing the area responsible for cartridge presentation and retention.
This clear 30-round model is primarily designed for compatible firearms chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO and .223 Remington. Its translucent body allows the shooter to visually estimate the remaining ammunition and identify the cartridges loaded inside without removing them from the magazine.
Hardened Steel Feed Lip Assembly
The hardened steel feed lip assembly wraps around the top of the magazine and is permanently secured within the polymer body. Unlike an all-polymer feed lip, the steel assembly is designed to resist bending, cracking and dimensional changes caused by hard handling or extended loaded storage.
Steel reinforcement is also used at the magazine-catch interface, giving the magazine durable contact surfaces at two of the most heavily stressed areas.
Translucent Clear Polymer Body
The translucent clear body provides a direct view of the ammunition stack. Molded round-count indicators offer additional reference points, while the clear body makes it easier to distinguish ammunition types during storage, preparation and range use.
The exterior uses aggressive surface texturing for positive handling and easier retrieval from magazine pouches. Lancer states that its proprietary polymer is impact and chemical resistant and has been tested across temperatures ranging from approximately -40°F to 180°F.
Constant-Curve Geometry and Non-Tilt Follower
The L5AWM uses constant-curve internal geometry intended to maintain consistent cartridge alignment through the magazine body. A non-tilt follower and stainless steel spring support smooth movement of the ammunition stack and reliable cartridge presentation.
The removable slide-on floorplate permits routine inspection and cleaning. Optional Lancer floorplates with drain holes are available for applications where additional drainage is useful.
Compatible 5.56 and .223 Platforms
Lancer lists the L5AWM as compatible with the M4, M16, AR-15, HK416, SCAR 16, ARX160, SIG556, ACR, SIG MCX, IWI Tavor, IWI X95 and SA80 when chambered in 5.56 NATO or .223 Remington. Actual fit should be confirmed with the individual firearm because magazine-well dimensions and component tolerances can vary.
This magazine does not fit AR-10, SR-25, LR-308 or other large-frame rifle platforms.
Limited 300 Blackout Compatibility
Lancer also recommends this standard L5AWM for .300 Blackout ammunition weighing less than 200 grains, particularly lightweight supersonic loads of 150 grains or less. This is still the standard 5.56/.223 magazine geometry rather than Lancer’s dedicated 300 Blackout design.
For heavy 200-grain-and-above subsonic ammunition, the dedicated Lancer L5AWM 300 Blackout magazine is the better choice because its internal geometry and rib clearance are specifically configured for larger .300 Blackout projectiles.
Clear Identification Matters
Because 5.56 NATO and .300 Blackout cartridges can be used in visually similar AR-15 platforms, magazines should be clearly identified and kept separated by caliber. A translucent body helps verify the ammunition inside, but it does not replace deliberate caliber marking and inspection before loading the firearm.
Never chamber or fire ammunition unless the firearm, barrel, bolt, magazine and cartridge are correctly matched.
