The KynSHOT Buffer Built Specifically for an A5 AR-15
The KynSHOT RB5000A5 is a purpose-built hydraulic recoil buffer for AR-15s using the longer A5 receiver-extension system. Rather than simply adapting a conventional carbine buffer to a longer tube, KynSHOT engineered the RB5000A5 around the operating characteristics of lightly cycling, tuned and under-gassed rifles.

Know the Difference: This Is an A5 Buffer
The RB5000A5 requires an A5-style receiver extension with an internal depth of approximately 7.75 inches. It is not the correct replacement for an ordinary AR-15 carbine receiver extension with approximately 7 inches of internal depth, nor is it intended for a conventional rifle-length A1/A2 extension.
This distinction matters because buffer length controls how far the bolt carrier group can travel. Installing a buffer intended for the wrong receiver-extension depth can prevent proper cycling or allow excessive carrier movement. Measure or positively identify the receiver extension before ordering rather than selecting the buffer by stock appearance alone.
KynSHOT designed the RB5000A5 to work with standard A5 buffer springs, making it a direct replacement for the conventional weighted buffer in an otherwise properly configured A5 recoil system.
Hydraulic Damping Instead of Weight Alone
A conventional AR buffer controls carrier movement primarily through its mass and the resistance of the action spring. The KynSHOT adds a self-contained hydraulic damping mechanism that resists and controls movement as the buffer compresses.
As the bolt carrier moves rearward, the hydraulic system absorbs a portion of the energy that would otherwise be transferred abruptly into the receiver extension and shooter. Instead of simply allowing the carrier and buffer to strike the rear of the tube before being driven forward by the spring, the KynSHOT moderates that movement throughout the stroke.
The practical goal is a smoother recoil impulse, reduced bolt velocity and less bolt bounce as the action closes. KynSHOT states that the RB5000A5 can reduce felt recoil by up to 30 percent while also decreasing sight movement and improving shot recovery.
Especially Useful in a Tuned or Under-Gassed Rifle
More buffer weight is not automatically better. A rifle with an adjustable gas block, reduced gas setting, efficient suppressor configuration or deliberately soft recoil setup may already be operating with less carrier energy than a conventionally gassed service rifle.
KynSHOT specifically identifies the RB5000A5 for lightly cycling, tuned and under-gassed AR-15s. The buffer's damping characteristics allow the shooter to gain the recoil-management advantages of a hydraulic system without selecting a model intended primarily to slow a violently over-gassed action.
Reliable function still depends on the complete operating system. Gas-port size, gas-block setting, ammunition pressure, suppressor use, carrier mass, action-spring rate, receiver-extension length and environmental conditions all influence how an individual rifle cycles.
A Good Match for Suppressed A5 Builds
Suppressed AR-15s can present an unusual tuning problem because adding a suppressor frequently changes both gas pressure and the timing of the operating system. KynSHOT reports that its internal testing with the RB5000A5 produced faster target reacquisition and reduced gas redirected toward the shooter during suppressed fire.
The greatest benefit will generally come from treating the buffer as one component of the complete recoil system rather than attempting to correct excessive gas solely with buffer weight. An adjustable gas system, appropriate spring and properly selected buffer can work together to control carrier velocity while maintaining enough energy for reliable feeding and bolt lockback.
Also Compatible with Delayed-Blowback PCC Systems
KynSHOT also identifies the RB5000A5 for pistol-caliber carbines using delayed-blowback operating systems. Compatible operating concepts include radial-delayed, roller-delayed, bearing-delayed and chamber-ring-delayed systems when the firearm uses the appropriate A5 receiver extension and spring configuration.
This should not be confused with a conventional straight-blowback 9mm AR. Direct-blowback PCCs can generate substantially different bolt energy and often require a dedicated PCC buffer such as the KynSHOT RB5007, RB5015HD or another model selected for that operating system.
17-4 Stainless Construction and Mil-Spec Hydraulic Components
The RB5000A5 is manufactured from high-strength 17-4 stainless steel and uses Mil-Spec hydraulic fluids and seals. KynSHOT certifies the buffer for operation from -30°F through +150°F, providing a wide working range for rifles used in field, duty, competition and training environments.
The complete unit measures approximately 4.35 inches long at rest and 3.90 inches when compressed, with a .76-inch body diameter. At 6 ounces, it provides meaningful reciprocating mass while retaining the active hydraulic damping that distinguishes it from a conventional solid or sliding-weight buffer.
The RB5000A5 is rated for full-auto firearm use and is manufactured in the United States.
Select the Buffer for the Rifle You Actually Have
KynSHOT offers several AR-15 buffers because one damping rate and buffer length cannot properly address every configuration. The standard RB5000 is intended for conventional 7-inch carbine receiver extensions, while the RB5000L is optimized for softer-cycling applications and the RB5000HP is intended for harder-cycling and over-gassed configurations.
The RB5000A5 fills a different role: it is the A5-length solution for a tuned or lightly cycling AR-15. Confirm the receiver-extension depth and evaluate how the rifle currently cycles before choosing between models.
After installation, function-test the firearm with the ammunition, magazine and suppressor configuration that will actually be used. Confirm reliable feeding, extraction, ejection and bolt lockback before relying on the new buffer setup.
