The Magpul MOE Carbine Stock MAG400-BLK is a lightweight adjustable stock for rifles using a Mil-Spec carbine receiver extension. It takes the basic concept of the traditional M4 collapsible stock and improves the ergonomics, cheek weld and release mechanism without adding unnecessary weight or complexity.
At only 8.4 ounces, the MOE remains a very practical choice for a general-purpose AR where keeping weight toward the rear of the rifle to a minimum matters.
Designed for Mil-Spec Carbine Receiver Extensions
This version of the MOE Stock is built specifically for Mil-Spec-diameter carbine receiver extensions.
Magpul currently lists compatibility with AR15 / M4 platforms as well as AR10 / SR25 / M110-pattern rifles using the proper Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extension.
This is not a commercial-spec stock. Verify the receiver-extension diameter before ordering if the rifle uses an older or unknown buffer tube.
A Better Take on the Basic M4 Stock
The MOE uses Magpul's streamlined A-frame profile, which protects the adjustment lever from accidental activation while reducing snag points around clothing, slings, vegetation and other equipment.
The sloping comb provides more cheek-support area than a basic GI-style collapsible stock while retaining a narrow, uncomplicated profile.
An ambidextrous release latch allows quick length-of-pull changes, while a premium chrome-silicon lock spring provides positive engagement of the adjustment mechanism.

On a standard M4-length carbine receiver extension, Magpul lists approximately:
- 10.3" LOP collapsed
- 13.6" LOP extended
- 3.3" total adjustment range
Actual dimensions can vary slightly with the receiver extension and rifle configuration.
The adjustable length makes the MOE useful when the same rifle needs to accommodate different shooters, clothing layers, shooting positions or equipment.
0.30" Rubber Butt-Pad
A removable 0.30-inch rubber butt-pad provides a non-slip contact surface against the shoulder and adds some impact protection to the rear of the stock.
The pad is modest rather than bulky, which helps retain the compact feel of the original MOE design.
Multiple Sling Attachment Options
The MOE provides simple mechanical sling attachment options without requiring additional hardware.
- Rear/bottom 1.25" sling loops
- Toe lanyard hole for paracord or similar attachment
- Compatible with Magpul ASAP®, ASAP® QD and other receiver-mounted sling systems
Unlike some higher-end Magpul stocks, the standard MOE does not incorporate an integral push-button QD socket into the stock body.
Compatible with Magpul CTR Cheek Risers
The MOE accepts compatible Magpul CTR cheek risers when used on rifles where a rear-facing charging handle does not interfere with the riser.
On a conventional AR15, cheek-riser compatibility is therefore limited by charging-handle clearance and stock position. The risers are more straightforward on firearms without an AR-style rear charging handle.
8.4 Ounces Keeps the Rear of the Rifle Light
The MOE weighs just 8.4 ounces. That makes it substantially lighter than storage stocks and many enhanced precision-oriented designs.
For a lightweight carbine, truck rifle, ranch rifle or basic general-purpose AR build, that simplicity is part of the appeal. There are no battery tubes, complicated locking mechanisms or large cheek pieces to add bulk where they are not needed.
AR15 and Large-Frame AR Use
The stock itself interfaces with the receiver extension, not the buffer or spring inside it. That means the MAG400 can be used on compatible AR15 and large-frame AR configurations when the rifle uses the correct Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extension.
Keep in mind that the recoil components inside an AR15 and an AR10 / .308-pattern rifle are not necessarily interchangeable. Buffer and action-spring selection must still match the specific rifle platform even though the same stock may fit the outside of the tube.

The MOE Carbine Stock is made and engineered in the United States. The black MAG400-BLK version also carries NSN 1005-01-655-6692.
A Solid Choice When You Don't Need the Extras
The standard MOE remains relevant because it does not try to be a precision stock, storage stock or oversized duty stock. It is simply a comfortable, lightweight and durable adjustable carbine stock.
If you need an integral QD socket or a secondary friction lock, Magpul's CTR and SL families offer additional features. If the goal is a straightforward Mil-Spec carbine stock with good ergonomics and minimal weight, the MOE remains hard to overcomplicate.
