Lightweight Magpul MOE Simplicity in Flat Dark Earth
The Magpul MOE Carbine Stock MAG400-FDE is a lightweight adjustable stock for rifles using a Mil-Spec carbine receiver extension. It improves on the basic M4 collapsible-stock concept with a cleaner cheek weld, protected adjustment lever and streamlined A-frame profile while keeping weight down to just 8.4 ounces.
This version is molded in Magpul Flat Dark Earth, making it a natural choice for FDE builds or rifles where the owner wants to break up an otherwise all-black configuration without adding unnecessary bulk.
Designed for Mil-Spec Carbine Receiver Extensions
The MAG400-FDE is designed specifically for Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extensions.
Magpul lists compatibility with AR15 / M4 platforms as well as AR10 / SR25 / M110-pattern rifles using the appropriate Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extension.
This is not a commercial-spec stock. If the rifle uses an older or unknown receiver extension, verify the tube dimensions before ordering.
A Better Take on the Basic M4 Stock
The MOE uses Magpul's streamlined A-frame profile, which helps shield the adjustment lever from accidental activation while reducing snag points around clothing, slings, vegetation and other equipment.
The sloped comb provides more cheek-support area than a basic GI-style collapsible stock while maintaining a narrow, uncomplicated profile.
An ambidextrous release latch allows quick length-of-pull changes, while a premium chrome-silicon lock spring provides positive engagement of the stock-position mechanism.

On a standard M4-length Mil-Spec carbine receiver extension, Magpul lists approximately:
- 10.3" LOP collapsed
- 13.6" LOP extended
- 3.3" total adjustment range
The adjustable length allows the rifle to accommodate different shooters, clothing layers, shooting positions and equipment without changing stocks.
0.30" Rubber Butt-Pad
A removable 0.30-inch rubber butt-pad provides a non-slip contact surface against the shoulder and protects the rear edge of the stock.
The pad remains relatively thin, preserving the compact dimensions and lightweight feel that distinguish the MOE from larger storage and precision-oriented stocks.
Multiple Sling Attachment Options
The standard MOE provides simple mechanical sling attachment points without adding extra hardware:
- Rear and bottom 1.25" sling loops
- Toe lanyard hole for paracord or similar attachment
- Compatible with Magpul ASAP®, ASAP® QD and other receiver-mounted sling systems
The standard MOE stock itself does not incorporate an integral push-button QD socket. Shooters wanting a QD socket built directly into the stock may prefer one of Magpul's CTR or SL-family designs.
Compatible with Magpul CTR Cheek Risers
The MOE accepts compatible Magpul CTR cheek risers when firearm geometry allows them to be used without interfering with the charging handle.
On a conventional rear-charging AR15, cheek risers can interfere with charging-handle travel depending on stock position, so compatibility should be considered before adding one.
Only 8.4 Ounces
At just 8.4 ounces, the MOE keeps unnecessary mass off the rear of the rifle.
That makes it particularly well suited to lightweight carbines, ranch rifles, truck rifles and general-purpose AR builds where storage compartments and complex locking systems are less important than simplicity, durability and balance.
AR15 and Large-Frame AR Compatibility
The stock interfaces with the outside of the receiver extension, not the buffer or action spring inside it. As a result, the same MAG400 can be used on compatible AR15 and large-frame AR configurations when they share the proper Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extension.
That does not mean the internal recoil components are interchangeable. AR15 and AR10 / .308-pattern rifles may require different buffers and springs even when the stock and receiver extension dimensions are the same.

A Straightforward FDE Stock for a Working Carbine
The MOE remains useful because it does not try to turn every carbine into a precision rifle or storage platform. It is simply a comfortable, lightweight and durable adjustable stock.
If you want an uncomplicated Mil-Spec stock in Flat Dark Earth with good ergonomics and minimal added weight, the MAG400-FDE remains one of Magpul's simplest proven options.
