Lightweight MOE Simplicity in Stealth Gray
The Magpul MOE Carbine Stock MAG400-GRY is a lightweight adjustable stock designed for rifles using a Mil-Spec carbine receiver extension. It improves on the basic M4 collapsible-stock concept with a cleaner cheek weld, protected adjustment lever and streamlined A-frame profile while weighing just 8.4 ounces.
This version is molded in Magpul Stealth Gray, providing a subdued neutral color that works particularly well on gray, black or mixed-color AR builds without turning the stock into a visual focal point.
Designed for Mil-Spec Carbine Receiver Extensions
The MAG400-GRY is designed specifically for Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extensions.
Magpul lists the MOE Carbine Stock for AR15 / M4 platforms as well as AR10 / SR25 / M110-pattern rifles using a compatible Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extension.
This is not a commercial-spec stock. If the rifle uses an older or unknown receiver extension, verify the tube dimensions before ordering.
A Better Take on the Basic M4 Stock
The MOE uses Magpul's streamlined A-frame profile, which helps shield the adjustment lever from accidental activation while reducing snag points around clothing, slings, vegetation and other equipment.
The sloping comb provides more cheek-support area than a basic GI-style collapsible stock while retaining a narrow, lightweight profile.
An ambidextrous release latch allows quick length-of-pull adjustment, while a premium chrome-silicon lock spring provides positive engagement and long service life.

On a standard M4-length Mil-Spec carbine receiver extension, Magpul lists approximately:
- 10.3" LOP collapsed
- 13.6" LOP extended
- 3.3" total adjustment range
That adjustable length makes the MOE useful when the rifle needs to accommodate different shooters, clothing layers, shooting positions or equipment.
0.30" Rubber Butt-Pad
A removable 0.30-inch rubber butt-pad gives the stock a non-slip shoulder surface and provides additional protection to the rear of the stock.
The pad remains relatively thin, preserving the compact dimensions and lightweight feel that distinguish the MOE from larger storage and precision-oriented stocks.
Sling Attachment Options
The standard MOE provides multiple simple sling attachment points:
- Rear and bottom 1.25" sling loops
- Toe lanyard hole for paracord or similar attachment
- Compatible with Magpul ASAP®, ASAP® QD and other receiver-mounted sling systems
The standard MOE does not incorporate an integral push-button QD socket in the stock body. Shooters wanting a built-in QD socket may prefer Magpul's CTR or SL-family stocks.
Compatible with Magpul CTR Cheek Risers
The MOE accepts compatible Magpul CTR cheek risers where firearm geometry and charging-handle clearance allow.
On a conventional rear-charging AR15, a cheek riser can interfere with charging-handle travel depending on stock position. Magpul therefore primarily recommends these risers for rifles without a rear-facing charging handle or configurations where adequate clearance has been confirmed.
Only 8.4 Ounces
At just 8.4 ounces, the MOE keeps unnecessary weight off the rear of the rifle.
That makes it well suited to lightweight carbines, ranch rifles, training rifles and general-purpose AR builds where storage tubes and larger precision-style cheek pieces are unnecessary.
AR15 and Large-Frame AR Compatibility
The stock interfaces with the outside of the receiver extension, not the buffer or action spring inside it. The MAG400 can therefore be used on compatible AR15 and large-frame AR configurations when they share the proper Mil-Spec-sized carbine receiver extension.
That does not mean the internal recoil components are interchangeable. AR15 and AR10 / .308-pattern rifles may require different buffers and action springs even when the external stock and receiver-extension dimensions are compatible.
Stealth Gray for a Subdued Build
Stealth Gray sits between traditional black and earth-tone furniture and works particularly well on rifles combining black anodized receivers with gray grips, handguards or accessories.
Unlike a painted finish, the color is inherent to the molded stock body, so normal surface wear does not expose a contrasting color underneath.

A Straightforward Working-Carbine Stock
The MOE remains relevant because it does not try to turn every carbine into a storage platform or precision rifle. It is simply a comfortable, lightweight and durable adjustable stock.
