Real Velocity Data Without Attaching Anything to the Barrel

The Athlon Optics RangeCraft Velocity Pro Radar Chronograph gives shooters a practical way to measure real-world projectile velocity without mounting a sensor to the firearm or setting up optical screens downrange. Its Doppler radar tracks the projectile beside the firing position, leaving the barrel, optic zero and normal shooting configuration undisturbed.

That matters when developing a load, confirming advertised ammunition velocity, building reliable ballistic data or diagnosing an unexpected point-of-impact change. Velocity is one of the foundational inputs behind drop calculations and consistency analysis. The Velocity Pro provides that information while allowing the rifle, pistol, airgun or bow to be fired in essentially the same configuration in which it will actually be used.

Useful With Suppressors, Brakes and Other Muzzle Devices

The Velocity Pro does not depend on muzzle blast to trigger a reading. It can therefore capture projectiles fired through suppressors and from firearms equipped with muzzle brakes, compensators and other muzzle devices. Its 65–5,000 FPS measurement range covers everything from relatively slow projectiles to high-velocity centerfire rifle ammunition.

Athlon rates velocity accuracy at ±0.1%. The radar also includes technology intended to follow the correct projectile when more than one shooter is operating nearby, helping make the unit more practical on a shared firing line.

More Than a Single Velocity Number

The 2.4-inch transflective LCD lets the shooter review data directly on the chronograph without requiring a phone for basic operation. The interface can display average velocity, minimum and maximum velocity, standard deviation, extreme spread and deviation from average. When projectile weight is entered, the unit can also calculate kinetic energy and power factor.

Internal memory stores as many as 50 shooting sessions with up to 100 shots in each session. Individual shots can be reviewed or deleted, and completed sessions remain available for later comparison. This makes the Velocity Pro useful for evaluating ammunition lots, powder charges, barrel changes, temperature effects and the consistency of a complete shooting system rather than merely recording one or two shots.

Bluetooth Data Management Without Making the App Mandatory

Bluetooth connectivity allows saved sessions to be synchronized with the compatible Athlon Ballistics App. Inside the app, shooters can rename, sort and filter sessions, identify clean-bore or cold-bore shots, exclude selected shots from calculations and associate recorded data with ballistic rifle and projectile profiles.

The chronograph remains usable from its own controls and display, so a phone is not required simply to record a string of fire. Bluetooth also provides a path for compatible firmware updates as Athlon continues developing the platform and its supporting software.

Compact Enough to Stay in the Range Bag

The Velocity Pro measures approximately 3.5 inches wide, 2.7 inches high and 1.2 inches deep, with a chronograph weight of only 4.7 ounces. A standard 1/4-20 threaded mounting point allows it to be positioned on the compact tripod or another compatible support.

The internal lithium-ion battery provides approximately six hours of operation and recharges through a common USB-C connection. An IP67 rating helps protect the unit against dust and water exposure, while its stated operating range of 14°F to 122°F makes it suitable for a wide variety of normal range and field conditions.

Placement Still Matters

For reliable tracking, Athlon instructs the user to position the radar approximately 4 to 10 inches from the firearm's muzzle or the bow's riser and align it along the projectile path toward the target. Extra care should be used around large-caliber firearms and aggressive muzzle brakes so the unit is not placed directly in damaging muzzle blast.

The RangeCraft Velocity Pro is a strong choice for the shooter who wants useful ballistic data without hanging equipment from the barrel, assembling a traditional optical chronograph in front of the firing line or making a phone mandatory for every range session. Athlon backs this electronic product with a standard one-year manufacturer warranty.
