The Barnes VOR-TX Rifle 6.5 Grendel 115 Grain TAC-TX BT is premium hunting ammunition built around Barnes’ monolithic, all-copper projectile technology. This factory load combines the efficient 6.5 Grendel cartridge with a 115-grain TAC-TX boat-tail bullet engineered for controlled expansion, deep penetration and high weight retention.
Barnes lists this load for hunting and specifically identifies it for medium-game applications. It is an excellent fit for hunters who want an expanding, lead-free projectile for deer, hogs and similarly sized game where permitted and appropriate.
All-Copper TAC-TX Performance
The TAC-TX projectile uses a solid-copper body rather than a conventional lead core. Its tipped design initiates expansion while the monolithic construction helps the bullet retain its structural integrity during penetration. Barnes describes the resulting performance as double-diameter expansion, maximum weight retention and substantial energy transfer.
Because there is no separate lead core, the projectile cannot experience traditional core-and-jacket separation. The design is intended to provide predictable expansion and straight-line penetration through demanding hunting conditions.
Optimized for the 6.5 Grendel
At 115 grains, this load balances useful velocity with the sectional performance and downrange efficiency expected from the 6.5 Grendel. Barnes publishes a muzzle velocity of 2,590 feet per second and muzzle energy of 1,713 foot-pounds from a 24-inch test barrel.
The bullet’s 0.387 G1 ballistic coefficient helps it retain velocity and energy downrange. Actual performance will vary with barrel length, firearm, atmospheric conditions and other variables.
