A .875 Low-Profile Gas Block for Heavy-Barrel AR Builds
The Aero Precision APRH100366C is a .875 low-profile gas block for AR barrels with a .875 inch gas block journal. It is a practical fit for many large-frame AR, Aero M5, AR-308, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, and heavy-profile AR barrel builds where the builder needs the correct gas block diameter under a free-float handguard.
This is not a universal AR gas block. The key number is .875. A barrel with a .750 journal needs a .750 gas block. A barrel with a .936 journal needs a .936 gas block. This part is for barrels specifically machined with a .875 gas block journal.
Why the Gas Block Size Matters
The gas block is one of the small parts that can make or break an AR build. If the inside diameter is wrong, it will not install correctly. If the gas port is misaligned, the rifle may short-stroke, fail to lock back, cycle inconsistently, or beat itself up depending on the rest of the gas and buffer system.
A .875 gas block is commonly encountered on heavier barrels and many large-frame AR barrels. It is especially relevant when building around barrels such as 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Winchester, or other AR-308 / M5-pattern barrels that use a larger gas journal than a typical lightweight AR-15 barrel.
Low-Profile Design for Free-Float Handguards
This Aero Precision gas block uses a low-profile design so it can fit beneath many free-float handguards. That matters on modern AR builds where the handguard usually covers the gas block rather than leaving it exposed like a fixed front sight base.
Low profile does not mean every handguard will clear every build. Always check the handguard inside diameter, gas block height and width, gas tube path, barrel profile, and mounting hardware before assembly. Clearance is especially important on slim handguards and larger gas block sizes.
Set-Screw Installation Notes
This gas block secures with two 10-32 x 3/16 knurled cup-point steel set screws. Proper installation requires correct gas-port alignment, a matching gas tube, the correct gas tube roll pin, and secure set-screw tension. Aero notes that the roll pin is not included.
Aero also cautions against using red thread locker on the set screws. If thread locker is used, choose a non-permanent type. Many builders also prefer a barrel with proper dimples for set-screw placement, especially on rifles expected to see hard use or sustained firing.
Who Should Choose This Aero .875 Gas Block?
This is a strong choice for the builder assembling an Aero M5, AR-308, or heavy-profile AR upper around a barrel with a .875 gas block journal. It is a simple, non-adjustable low-profile gas block for customers who want a straightforward gas system part rather than an adjustable gas block.
It is less suitable for a suppressed rifle that needs fine gas tuning, a barrel with a different journal diameter, a pinned front sight base build, or a handguard with insufficient internal clearance. The value here is the correct .875 fit, Aero compatibility, low-profile form, set-screw mounting, and simple fixed-gas-block function.
