Hydraulic Recoil Management for the Glock 17 Gen 5

The KynSHOT PB6004 is a self-contained hydraulic guide rod and recoil spring assembly designed specifically for Glock 17 Gen 5 pistols. It replaces the standard guide-rod assembly without requiring permanent changes to the pistol, manual tuning or a separate selection of recoil springs.

Instead of relying only on spring resistance, the PB6004 uses hydraulic damping to regulate the slide’s movement and speed throughout the firing cycle. The result is a more controlled recoil impulse intended to reduce sight disruption, soften slide movement and help the shooter recover more quickly between shots.

Self-Compensating Hydraulic Damping

The PB6004 incorporates KynSHOT’s patented self-compensating damping technology. The hydraulic system automatically responds to changes in slide speed, allowing it to accommodate different ammunition without requiring the shooter to exchange springs or manually adjust the assembly.

This differs from conventional tuning systems that use interchangeable recoil springs to change slide behavior. KynSHOT designed the PB6004 as a complete drop-in assembly that operates without additional tuning when installed in its intended Glock 17 Gen 5 platform.

Reduced Slide Speed and Recoil Motion

By controlling the slide’s rearward movement, the hydraulic assembly is designed to reduce the abrupt motion transmitted through the pistol during firing. Lower slide speed can help limit muzzle movement, reduce vibration transmitted to a mounted optic and soften the slide’s impact at the end of its rearward travel.

KynSHOT reports that the PB6004 reduces total recoil motion, which the manufacturer identifies as recoil width, by more than 70 percent. KynSHOT testing also produced shot-recovery times below 0.5 seconds, compared with 1.5 seconds or more when using the standard guide-rod systems included in its comparison.

These figures are manufacturer-reported test results rather than a guarantee for every shooter or pistol. Perceived recoil and recovery time will vary with ammunition, pistol configuration, optic weight, shooting technique and other conditions.

Control, Sight Recovery and Component Wear

Limiting unnecessary slide movement can help the sights or optic remain closer to the shooter’s visual reference during recoil. This can support faster visual recovery and more consistent follow-up shots, particularly during rapid strings of fire.

Controlled slide velocity also reduces the severity of impact forces within the operating cycle. KynSHOT identifies reduced general wear, decreased optic vibration and increased firearm longevity among the intended benefits of the PB6004.

17-4 Stainless-Steel Construction

The PB6004 is manufactured from high-strength 17-4 stainless steel and uses mil-spec hydraulic fluids and seals. Its corrosion-resistant construction is intended to protect the enclosed hydraulic system while supporting dependable operation under demanding environmental conditions.

KynSHOT certifies the PB6004 for an ambient operating-temperature range of -30°F to +150°F. The assembly is manufactured in the United States using military-grade materials and processes.

Exact Glock 17 Gen 5 Fitment

KynSHOT specifies the PB6004 for Glock 17 Gen 5 pistols. Do not assume compatibility with earlier Glock 17 generations, the Glock 19, Glock 34 or another model merely because the pistols share a caliber or similar external dimensions.

Owners of a Glock 19 should select the KynSHOT model specified for their pistol and generation. Confirm the model and generation markings of the host pistol before ordering or installing the assembly.

Drop-In Installation

Installation follows the normal field-stripping process used to access the Glock recoil spring assembly. The original assembly is removed and the PB6004 is installed in its place. KynSHOT states that no firearm modification or system tuning is required.

After installation, confirm that the guide rod is correctly seated and that the unloaded pistol cycles freely before loading or firing it. Discontinue use if the slide does not move normally, the assembly is not properly retained or any component shows visible damage.
