A Compact .44 Lever Gun for Hard-Use Field Carry

The Marlin Model 1894 Trapper 70451 is for the shooter who wants the traditional strengths of a .44 Magnum lever action in a shorter, more weather-resistant field configuration. Its 16.1-inch barrel and 33.25-inch overall length make it easier to carry through timber, in and out of a vehicle, around a working property, or on a sling during a long day afield than a full-length traditional lever rifle.

Unlike the walnut-and-blued-steel Model 1894 Classic, the Trapper uses a matte stainless steel action and barrel with black laminate furniture. That makes it especially appealing to the buyer who expects rain, mud, changing temperatures, hard use, or simply prefers a more practical modern field rifle while retaining the familiar balance and manual operation of the Model 1894 platform.

.44 Magnum Power With .44 Special Flexibility

The 70451 is chambered for .44 Remington Magnum and also accepts .44 Special ammunition. That gives the owner a meaningful choice between full-power .44 Magnum loads for hunting and serious field use where lawful and appropriate, or softer-shooting .44 Special loads for general range time and more relaxed practice.

The receiver-mounted loading gate feeds a tubular magazine holding eight rounds of .44 Magnum or nine rounds of .44 Special. This makes the rifle especially attractive to shooters who already own a .44 Magnum revolver and appreciate the practical simplicity of sharing ammunition between a handgun and a compact lever rifle.

Threaded Muzzle: Useful, but Fitment Matters

The cold hammer-forged stainless barrel is threaded 5/8x24 and includes a factory-installed thread protector. This gives the owner a path to add a properly fitted muzzle device, direct-thread suppressor, or suppressor-mounting solution. It does not mean every 5/8x24 accessory is appropriate: any installed device must provide safe bore clearance for .44 caliber projectiles, and final fitment should be confirmed before firing.

For fast, practical aiming, Marlin fits the Trapper with a Skinner Sights receiver-mounted adjustable peep sight and front blade. The oversized lever loop gives additional operating room for gloved hands, while the included offset hammer spur can make hammer operation easier if the rifle is later configured with a compatible optic arrangement.

Who Should Choose the 1894 Trapper?

This is the right Model 1894 for the buyer who values compact length, matte stainless durability, laminate stability, threaded-muzzle flexibility, and a receiver-mounted peep sight. It is less suited to someone seeking a purely traditional walnut-and-blued-steel heirloom rifle; that buyer will likely prefer the Model 1894 Classic.

The 1894 Trapper is a practical choice for woods carry, ranch use, range shooting, and hunting applications where lawful and appropriate. It gives you a short, durable, manual-action .44 lever gun that remains recognizably Marlin while being better prepared for modern field use.
