One of the most useful features of Xeno is easy to miss from photographs: the suppressor-side Xeno interface uses left-hand threads.

The DA125 still installs onto the firearm's barrel using conventional 1/2x28 right-hand barrel threads, but the external Xeno interface that connects to the suppressor adapter is left-hand threaded.

This opposing thread direction is intentional. Dead Air designed Xeno so that removing the suppressor works against the direction that would normally loosen the muzzle device from the barrel.

In practical terms, the suppressor should come off the Xeno muzzle device rather than taking the muzzle device with it.

The DA125 Is Only the Firearm Side of the Xeno System

The DA125 does not by itself convert a suppressor to Xeno.

A compatible Xeno suppressor adapter must also be installed in the suppressor. The correct adapter depends on the suppressor's rear mounting interface.

For example, Dead Air's DA455 Xeno Adapter is the HUB / R-Series version used with appropriately compatible suppressors featuring the common HUB mounting interface. Dead Air has also produced the DA457 P-Series Xeno Adapter for compatible P-Series applications such as the Wolfman.

Always match the suppressor adapter to the suppressor itself and confirm that the suppressor bore and caliber rating are appropriate for the firearm.

A Natural Match for the Dead Air Wolfman

The DA125 is particularly interesting for a 9mm PCC equipped with a Dead Air Wolfman.

With the correct P-Series Xeno adapter installed in the Wolfman, the Wee Brake provides a compact fixed-barrel mounting solution that allows the suppressor to move between appropriately configured Xeno hosts without replacing the firearm-side mounting system each time.

This is a different mounting strategy from a conventional 3-lug. The Xeno uses a threaded taper rather than the spring-loaded lug interface normally associated with PCC suppressor mounts.

Threaded Taper Rather Than a Conventional QD Latch

Xeno is often casually described as a “QD” system because the suppressor can be installed and removed without unscrewing the muzzle device from the firearm.

Mechanically, however, it is more accurate to call Xeno a threaded-taper mounting system.

There is no ratchet, locking collar or spring-loaded latch. The suppressor threads onto the muzzle device and seats against the taper.

That simplicity is part of the appeal: relatively few moving parts, positive mechanical engagement and a compact firearm-side muzzle device.

Important: Fixed-Barrel Suppressor Application

Despite the name “Pistol Wee Brake,” the DA125 should not be confused with a suppressor piston or Nielsen-device mount for a conventional recoil-operated handgun.

A typical Browning-style tilting-barrel pistol requires an appropriate booster / piston assembly for normal suppressed operation. Rigidly mounting a suppressor through Xeno does not substitute for that required movement.

The DA125 is therefore most naturally suited to fixed-barrel 9mm applications such as PCCs, subguns and similar hosts when used as a suppressor mount.

Compact When the Suppressor Comes Off

One practical advantage of the Wee Brake is what remains on the firearm after the suppressor is removed.

Rather than leaving a large brake or long multi-prong flash hider at the muzzle, the DA125 maintains a relatively compact profile. This is useful on short PCCs and compact fixed-barrel firearms where minimizing overall length and snag points is part of the reason for choosing the platform.
