Compensated Glock 19 Performance Without a Threaded Barrel

The Strike Industries Mass Driver Comp for the Gen 3 Glock 19 takes a fundamentally different approach to pistol compensation. Rather than threading a compensator directly onto the barrel, Strike Industries connects the Mass Driver system through a dedicated guide rod and recoil-spring assembly.

The result is a compensator that can be used with the standard non-threaded barrel in a properly configured Glock 19 Gen 3. That removes the cost and complexity of purchasing a separate threaded barrel while also providing an option for shooters who simply do not want threaded muzzle hardware on the pistol.

This Huckleberry Arms product is specifically Strike Industries part number SI-G3-MDCOMP-C, the compact configuration designed for the Gen 3 Glock 19 in 9mm.

How the Mass Driver System Works

Most pistol compensators are rigidly attached to the barrel. When the pistol fires, that mass becomes part of the moving barrel assembly during the recoil cycle.

The Strike Industries Mass Driver works differently. Hot propellant gases act on the compensator as the projectile exits the muzzle, driving the compensator forward while the slide begins moving rearward.

This creates a counter-recoil effect: the slide and compensator are moving in opposite directions during part of the firing cycle. Strike Industries designed the system to reduce felt recoil and muzzle movement while separating much of the compensator mass from the pistol's normal reciprocating components.

Strike states that separating the compensator from the operating components after ignition helps the pistol maintain cycling speeds closer to the factory configuration than a conventional barrel-mounted compensator that adds reciprocating mass.

No Threaded Barrel Required

The Mass Driver's most unusual feature is simple: it does not require a threaded barrel.

The compensator is retained through its proprietary guide-rod assembly rather than screwed onto muzzle threads. A standard compatible non-threaded Glock 19 Gen 3 barrel can therefore remain in the pistol.

Strike Industries also states that the Mass Driver can work with many aftermarket threaded Glock barrels, although the company recommends using a non-threaded barrel when possible.

Because firearm laws vary by jurisdiction and can change, Huckleberry Arms does not characterize the product as universally legal in every location. Buyers remain responsible for confirming that their particular firearm configuration complies with applicable law.

This SKU Is for the Glock 19 Gen 3

Strike Industries manufactures Mass Driver configurations for multiple Glock generations and slide lengths. They are not interchangeable simply because the compensator bodies appear similar.

SI-G3-MDCOMP-C is the compact Gen 3 configuration intended for the Glock 19.

It should not be confused with the standard-length G17 configuration or the Gen 4 and Gen 5 versions, which use different recoil-system components.

Strike Industries designed and tested the system around factory Glock components and Strike Industries slides. The manufacturer specifically states that proper fit and function cannot be guaranteed with every third-party Glock-compatible slide or frame.

Widened Bore and Slide-Face Relief

Strike Industries incorporated two useful details into the current Mass Driver design.

The compensator uses a widened bore intended to increase projectile clearance and reduce the possibility of projectile contact or keyholing.

A 2.5mm relief cut at the top rear of the compensator provides additional clearance between the comp and slide face. Strike says this feature is intended to reduce lipping and cosmetic or mechanical damage where the compensator interfaces with the front of the slide.

Designed Around Near-Factory Slide Cycling

Adding a conventional barrel-mounted compensator changes the mass connected directly to the barrel and can alter the operating characteristics of a recoil-operated handgun.

The Mass Driver system attempts to minimize that effect by allowing the compensator body to move independently through its dedicated spring and guide-rod arrangement.

That does not mean every ammunition and pistol combination will function identically. Recoil-operated handguns are systems: ammunition impulse, recoil-spring rate, slide mass, optic weight, barrel fit and aftermarket components can all affect cycling.

Any pistol modified with a compensator should be function tested with the ammunition the shooter actually intends to use.

Do Not Use +P or +P+ Ammunition with This System

Strike Industries specifically warns that use of 9mm +P and +P+ ammunition can cause premature wear of the Mass Driver's internal spring and lead to failure.

For that reason, this system should be paired with standard-pressure 9mm ammunition unless Strike Industries publishes different guidance for the specific configuration being used.

Open-Bottom Holster Compatibility

The Mass Driver body closely follows the width and contours of a factory Glock slide. Strike Industries designed the profile to work with many open-bottom holsters capable of accommodating a compensator extending beyond the muzzle.

Holster fit should still be checked individually. Lights, aftermarket slides, extended controls and individual holster geometry can all affect clearance, and the compensator adds length beyond a standard Glock 19 slide.

Do not assume a closed-bottom Glock 19 holster will accommodate the Mass Driver.

Installation Uses a Dedicated Guide-Rod Assembly

The Mass Driver replaces the pistol's standard recoil-spring assembly with the components supplied in the kit. The Gen 3 package includes the compensator body, recoil spring, guide rod, guide-rod fitment washer, guide-rod head and internal spring.

Strike Industries specifies 25 lb-in of torque for the guide-rod nut and recommends Loctite® Threadlocker Blue 242® on threaded components.

Strike recommends installation by a gunsmith or qualified armorer. After installation, verify that the firearm cycles freely and that the compensator and guide-rod components remain secure before live firing.

A Different Kind of Compensator

The Mass Driver is most appealing to the Glock 19 owner who wants compensation but does not want to replace the factory barrel simply to gain muzzle threads.

It also provides a mechanically interesting alternative to the traditional threaded-barrel compensator. Instead of simply redirecting gas through a fixed muzzle device, the system combines gas redirection with a moving mass that travels opposite the slide during recoil.

That makes the Mass Driver neither a conventional threaded compensator nor merely decorative muzzle hardware. It is a complete recoil-system modification built around its own guide rod and spring assembly.

Important Fitment: This listing is for Glock 19 Gen 3, 9mm. It is not the G17-length Mass Driver and is not the Gen 4 or Gen 5 version.
