SureFire SFLFP123 Rechargeable Batteries – Compatibility, Charging & Buyer Information
The SureFire SFLFP123 battery set includes two rechargeable Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) 123A-size cells. Each battery provides 3.2 volts nominal voltage, 450mAh capacity, and 1.44 watt-hours of nominal energy.
These rechargeable batteries are intended for compatible LED illumination devices. They are not universal replacements for every product that accepts disposable CR123A batteries.
Does SFLFP123 Include a Charger?
No. Manufacturer part number SFLFP123 contains two rechargeable batteries only.
Customers who also need charging equipment should consider the SureFire SFLFP123-KIT Rechargeable Batteries with Charger, which includes two cells, a matching two-bay charger, and a USB charging cable.
SFLFP123 vs. SFLFP123-KIT – What's the Difference?
| Specification | SFLFP123 | SFLFP123-KIT |
| Rechargeable Batteries | 2 | 2 |
| Battery Chemistry | LiFePO4 | LiFePO4 |
| Nominal Voltage | 3.2V Per Cell | 3.2V Per Cell |
| Capacity | 450mAh Per Cell | 450mAh Per Cell |
| Two-Bay Charger | Not Included | Included |
| USB Charging Cable | Not Included | Included |
| Manufacturer UPC | 084871329811 | 084871329828 |
The battery-only package is the logical choice for customers who already own suitable SureFire LFP charging equipment. The kit is the better starting point for customers who do not.
What Is Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4)?
Lithium Iron Phosphate is a rechargeable lithium battery chemistry with a different electrochemical design from conventional lithium-ion and disposable primary lithium cells.
LiFePO4 is valued for thermal stability, cycle durability, and repeated charging performance. SureFire uses this chemistry in its SFLFP123 batteries for compatible LED illumination equipment.
These characteristics do not make the batteries immune to damage or improper charging. Correct equipment and safe battery handling remain essential.
Are SFLFP123 Batteries the Same as CR123A Batteries?
They share a similar physical size, but their electrical characteristics are different.
Conventional disposable CR123A batteries generally provide approximately 3.0 volts nominal voltage with substantially greater stored energy than SureFire's 450mAh rechargeable LFP123A cells.
The SureFire rechargeable version is rated at 3.2 volts nominal and 1.44 watt-hours per cell.
Physical fit does not guarantee device compatibility. Always follow the illumination manufacturer's battery specifications.
Will Rechargeable 123A Batteries Last as Long as Disposable Ones?
No. SureFire specifically warns that its LFP123 rechargeable batteries have significantly less runtime than its disposable lithium 123A batteries.
The advantage of SFLFP123 is the ability to recharge and reuse the cells rather than obtaining the longest possible runtime from each individual discharge.
For regularly used compatible lighting equipment, rechargeable cells may provide economic advantages. For extended standby storage, emergency preparation, or applications demanding maximum runtime, disposable primary lithium cells may be more appropriate.
How Long Does Charging Take?
SureFire states that its matching two-bay charger can charge one or two SFLFP123 batteries in approximately 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the number of batteries and charging conditions.
The charging system uses a typical termination voltage of approximately 3.65 volts per cell, with automatic charge termination when charging is complete.
Important: The charger is not included with this SFLFP123 battery-only package. These charging specifications describe the compatible SureFire charging system.
Can I Use a Regular Lithium-Ion Charger?
Do not assume that a charger designed for 3.6V or 3.7V nominal lithium-ion cells is appropriate for these 3.2V LiFePO4 batteries.
Charging profiles and termination voltages differ between chemistries. Only use charging equipment expressly approved for the SureFire LFP123A cells or otherwise confirmed as compatible by the manufacturer.
Incorrect charging equipment can damage batteries or create a safety hazard.
Can These Batteries Be Used in SureFire WeaponLights?
SureFire markets its LFP123A batteries for compatible LED illumination products, including selected WeaponLights and handheld lights.
However, SureFire's product family includes different light generations and electronic designs. Battery compatibility must be verified for the exact light model.
Do not assume that every SureFire light using disposable 123A cells is approved for rechargeable LFP123A cells.
Can I Use SFLFP123 in Incandescent Flashlights?
No. SureFire expressly states that its rechargeable SFLFP123 batteries are intended for LED illumination products only and are not to be used with incandescent illumination tools.
Customers with older incandescent SureFire lights should use batteries recommended for those specific models.
Can I Mix Rechargeable and Disposable 123A Batteries?
No. Do not mix rechargeable LiFePO4 cells with disposable lithium batteries in a multi-cell device.
Do not mix batteries with different chemistries, capacities, charge levels, or substantially different conditions of use. Follow the device manufacturer's instructions and use properly matched battery sets.
Can I Use These Batteries With Other Brands of Lights?
Possibly, but only if the other manufacturer expressly approves the use of rechargeable 3.2V LiFePO4 123A-size batteries.
A light's compatibility with disposable CR123A cells does not automatically establish compatibility with SureFire LFP123A cells.
Battery Storage and Safety
Store batteries in a cool, dry location away from excessive heat, moisture, metal objects, and unauthorized access. Keep loose cells protected against short circuits.
Do not charge damaged, leaking, swollen, or excessively hot batteries. Do not disassemble, puncture, crush, or expose batteries to fire.
Follow SureFire's current charging, use, and storage instructions. Batteries must be recycled or disposed of according to applicable local regulations.
Lithium Battery Shipping
SFLFP123 contains rechargeable lithium-based cells. Shipping requirements may depend on battery chemistry, package configuration, carrier rules, and applicable hazardous-material transportation regulations.
Huckleberry Arms will ship the product using eligible services and packaging consistent with applicable carrier and regulatory requirements.
