Die Free Co designed the Kung Fu Grip around a simple question: does a traditional swept-back rifle grip still make sense on a modern rifle with a shorter length of pull? The resulting 12-degree grip angle places the hand, wrist and forearm in a more neutral relationship, giving the shooter a comfortable and repeatable interface with the rifle.

Why the 12-Degree Grip Angle Matters
A traditional A2-style grip sweeps substantially toward the rear. That geometry developed around fixed-stock rifles with a comparatively long length of pull. On compact carbines, AR pistols and rifles using adjustable stocks, the shooter often places the firing hand farther forward relative to the shoulder.
The Kung Fu Grip's reduced 12-degree angle better accommodates that position. It helps bring the hand, wrist and forearm closer to a natural line instead of forcing the wrist rearward. The result can be especially noticeable when shooting from a squared standing position, working from unconventional positions or using a compact stock setting.
Repeatable Hand Placement Without Excessive Grip Pressure
An enhanced finger groove gives the firing hand a consistent index point each time the rifle is shouldered. That repeatability can help the shooter maintain access to the selector, trigger and magazine release without relying on excessive grip pressure.
The durable nylon body uses DFCO's retro-style molded texture for traction without the need for separate grip tape. The grip does not include built-in battery storage by itself; storage is added with the separately available DFCO PLUG.
Broad Modern-Rifle Compatibility
Die Free Co specifies the Kung Fu Grip for AR-15, M4, M16, AR-10, M110, SR-25, MCX and MPX platforms. The same reduced-angle geometry can therefore be used across several common small-frame, large-frame and compact rifle configurations.
Because receiver contours differ, some installations may leave a small cosmetic gap between the grip tang and receiver. DFCO states that this does not affect the grip's function or the firearm's reliability. Always confirm platform compatibility and included mounting hardware on the individual product page.
Add Storage and Length with the DFCO PLUG
The DFCO PLUG is designed specifically for the Kung Fu Grip. It closes the open bottom of the grip, extends its length approximately one-quarter inch and squares the rear of the grip to provide additional contact for larger hands.
Its internal compartments can accommodate two CR123, AA or AAA batteries, one CR2032 battery, a small Allen or Torx wrench and a MultiTasker NANO Tool. The rubber body uses friction retention and includes drainage openings along the bottom.
The PLUG should not be assumed to fit unrelated pistol grips. It is a dedicated Kung Fu Grip accessory.
Choosing a Kung Fu Grip Color
- Black: The most neutral choice for black receivers, handguards and traditional AR components.
- Flat Dark Earth: A natural match for FDE, coyote, tan and mixed earth-tone builds.
- Olive Drab Green: Fits woodland, field and green-accented rifle configurations.
- Jungle Gray: Provides a subdued alternative to black and pairs well with gray or mixed-finish components.
Colors produced by different manufacturers and through different finishing processes may not match exactly. Select the color for the overall build rather than expecting an exact shade match across every component.
Who Should Choose the Kung Fu Grip?
The Kung Fu Grip is particularly well suited to shooters who prefer compact stock settings, a squared stance or a less rearward wrist angle. It also makes sense when the same grip geometry is desired across multiple compatible platforms.
Shooters who prefer the feel of a traditional swept A2-style grip may favor a more conventional design. Grip geometry is personal, but the Kung Fu Grip offers a meaningfully different hand position rather than merely changing texture or appearance.
