A True M16A1-Pattern Carry-Handle Upper
The Luth-AR UR-01-M16A Assembled M16A1 Upper Receiver is a purpose-built foundation for a traditional A1-style AR-15 rifle, combining the classic fixed carry handle, A1 rear sight system and early receiver geometry with modern production from a 7075-T6 aluminum forging.
Unlike later C7-style and M4-pattern receivers, this upper is deliberately manufactured with no case deflector and no M4 feed-ramp cuts. Those details make it substantially closer to traditional M16A1 receiver geometry than receivers that simply combine an A1 sight with later external features.
Luth-AR supplies the receiver already assembled with the A1 rear sight, A1 ejection-port cover and teardrop forward assist, saving the builder from sourcing and installing those small assemblies separately.
Forged 7075-T6 Aluminum Construction
The receiver is machined from a 7075-T6 aluminum forging, providing the traditional forged construction associated with quality military-pattern AR receivers.
Luth-AR finishes the receiver in black hard-coat anodizing for surface hardness, wear resistance and the familiar appearance expected on an A1-style rifle.
Luth-AR Exclusive Stacked DC Forge Mark
The UR-01-M16A carries Luth-AR's exclusive stacked DC forge mark.
For builders paying attention to the small visual details of a retro-inspired rifle, the forge marking gives this receiver a distinct identity while preserving the overall character of the traditional A1 upper.
Integral A1 Carry Handle
The fixed carry handle is part of the receiver itself rather than an accessory mounted to a flat-top Picatinny rail.
This provides the characteristic profile of the M16A1-era rifle and supports the traditional A1 rear-sight arrangement directly within the carry handle.
For a retro build, that integral receiver geometry is one of the biggest visual differences between an authentic A1-style configuration and a modern flat-top AR fitted with detachable sights.
A1 Rear Sight Assembly Installed
Luth-AR ships the UR-01-M16A with its A1 rear sight assembly already installed.
The A1 system uses the simpler traditional rear-sight arrangement rather than the later A2 sight with its prominent elevation drum. That difference is central to both the appearance and operation of an A1-pattern upper.
Teardrop Forward Assist Installed
The receiver also arrives with a teardrop-style forward assist installed.
The teardrop paddle is one of the most recognizable external details of the M16A1 era and gives the receiver the correct early visual character instead of the later round forward-assist button commonly seen on modern AR-15 uppers.
A1 Port Door Cover Assembly Installed
An A1 ejection-port cover assembly is installed at the factory.
With the rear sight, port door and forward assist already fitted, the UR-01-M16A is an assembled receiver rather than a stripped shell. The builder can move directly to selecting the barrel, gas system, handguards, charging handle and bolt carrier group appropriate to the completed rifle.
No Case Deflector
One of the most important details of this receiver is what is not present.
The UR-01-M16A has no integral brass or case deflector behind the ejection port.
That separates it from later C7-style receivers, which retained the A1 carry handle and sight system but incorporated a case deflector. For a traditional M16A1-inspired rifle, the absence of that deflector is an important visual and historical detail.
No M4 Feed Ramps
Luth-AR also specifically manufactures this receiver with no M4-style receiver feed-ramp cuts.
This differentiates the UR-01-M16A from many modern retro-looking receivers that retain later M4 feed-ramp geometry beneath an otherwise traditional exterior.
Builders should account for the receiver's feed-ramp configuration when selecting and fitting the barrel assembly.
UR-01-M16A vs. Luth-AR UR-01A C7 Upper
Luth-AR offers another A1-sight receiver that can easily be confused with this product.
- UR-01-M16A: M16A1-style receiver with no case deflector and no M4 feed ramps
- UR-01A: Later C7-style A1 receiver incorporating a case deflector and M4-style feed ramps
This listing is specifically for UR-01-M16A, UPC 812058033653.
If the goal is the cleaner, earlier M16A1 receiver profile rather than the later C7 configuration, this is the appropriate Luth-AR receiver.
.223 Remington / 5.56 NATO Application
Luth-AR lists the receiver for .223 Remington / 5.56 NATO applications.
The upper receiver itself does not establish the final chambering of the completed firearm. Actual chambering and ammunition compatibility are determined by the barrel, bolt and other components selected for the finished upper assembly.
An Excellent Foundation for a Retro 20-Inch Rifle
The UR-01-M16A is a natural starting point for a traditional 20-inch A1-style rifle using a compatible pencil-profile barrel, triangular handguards, front sight base and fixed A1-style stock.
It can also serve as the foundation for a custom carry-handle rifle where the builder wants classic M16A1 external geometry while choosing modern-production internal components.
Assembled Receiver — Not a Complete Barreled Upper
The word assembled refers to the receiver's installed small parts.
This product is not a complete barreled upper receiver group. A barrel, gas system, handguards, charging handle and bolt carrier group are not included.
That gives the builder freedom to select the barrel profile, twist rate, gas-system components and furniture appropriate to the intended rifle.
Built for the Shooter Who Notices the Details
There are plenty of fixed-carry-handle receivers available that borrow the general appearance of an early AR. The value of the UR-01-M16A is that Luth-AR deliberately retained the details that distinguish an M16A1-style receiver from later variants: A1 sights, teardrop forward assist, no case deflector and no M4 feed ramps.
For a traditional A1-inspired rifle, those seemingly small features are what make the completed build look and feel right.
