IMPORTANT MODEL DISCLOSURE: This is the discontinued January 2021 MT-LVL4 plate manufactured before MIRA Safety introduced its current NIJ-certified Level IV plate. This legacy model was tested to NIJ 0101.06 Level IV standards but was not NIJ certified and was not listed on the NIJ Compliant Products List. It must not be represented as the current certified model.
Legacy MIRA Tactical MT-LVL4 Stand-Alone Armor Plate
The MIRA Tactical MT-LVL4 is a lightweight ceramic and ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene hard-armor plate. It measures 10 by 12 inches, is 0.90 inch thick and weighs 5.9 pounds, plus or minus five percent.
This plate uses a single-curve shooter’s-cut profile designed to fit compatible plate carriers while providing additional clearance for shouldering a rifle. It is a stand-alone plate, meaning its labeled protection does not require a separate soft-armor panel behind it.
This listing is for one plate. A conventional front-and-back carrier configuration normally requires two properly sized plates.
NIJ Tested, Not NIJ Certified
The plate label states “NIJ 0101.06 Level IV Stand Alone.” Original product materials described the MT-LVL4 as tested at a United States laboratory in accordance with NIJ Level IV standards.
Testing to an NIJ standard and NIJ certification are not the same. This discontinued MT-LVL4 model was not certified by the National Institute of Justice and was not included on the NIJ Compliant Products List. The label’s Level IV statement describes the manufacturer’s rated and tested performance rather than an NIJ certification.
MIRA Safety now sells a different NIJ-certified Level IV plate. The current certified plate is heavier, thinner and multi-curve. Its certification and expanded ballistic-performance information must not be attributed to this older MT-LVL4.
Label-Marked .30-06 M2 AP Protection
The January 2021 plate label identifies the rated threat as .30-06 M2 armor-piercing ammunition and describes the plate as multi-shot. The same label warns that the plate is rated only for the listed ballistic threat level and is not intended to protect against other rifle-fired ammunition.
Ballistic resistance is specific to the plate model, construction, condition, projectile, velocity, shot placement and test procedure. A Level IV marking should never be interpreted as protection from every projectile or every impact location.
Ceramic and UHMWPE Construction
The MT-LVL4 combines a hard ceramic strike material with ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene backing. The ceramic component is intended to disrupt and erode the projectile, while the UHMWPE structure supports the ceramic and helps retain projectile and plate fragments.
Ceramic armor may sustain internal damage from a severe drop or impact without obvious external evidence. The plate should be carefully inspected before sale and periodically during its service life. Any plate that is cracked, punctured, delaminated, heavily creased, struck by a projectile or suspected of internal damage should be removed from service.
Single-Curve Shooter’s-Cut Profile
The single-curve profile follows the torso in one direction. Its clipped upper corners provide additional clearance for arm movement and rifle shouldering while retaining the plate’s primary torso-coverage area.
Carrier fit depends on the carrier’s internal dimensions, plate-pocket shape, closure system and accepted plate thickness. Confirm that the carrier accepts a 10-by-12-inch shooter’s-cut plate approximately 0.90 inch thick.
January 2021 Manufacture Date
The permanently attached label identifies January 2021 as the date of manufacture and states a 10-year warranty. If calculated directly from the marked manufacture date, the nominal 10-year period runs through January 2031.
Warranty coverage, transferability and any replacement remedy remain subject to MIRA Safety’s applicable terms. The warranty marking is not a guarantee that a plate remains undamaged or suitable for service, and it does not replace inspection and proper storage.
Body-Side Orientation and Care
The labeled side is marked as the body side and must be worn facing the wearer. The opposite side is the strike face and must face outward toward the anticipated threat.
Do not machine wash, dry clean, bleach, iron, bend or alter the plate. Wipe the exterior with a damp cloth when cleaning is necessary. Store it flat or upright in a supported position in a cool, dry location away from prolonged heat, moisture, chemicals and unnecessary impact.
